I was doing some road gigs in San Diego with my friend Nick Petrillo it was late and I was falling asleep in the passengers seat. As I was drifting in and out of consciousness I see police lights in the rear view mirror. I was drunk but Nick was completely sober so I knew that he wouldn't get a DUI and I assumed that's what we're being pulled over for. The officer looked at us through the passengers side and asked Nick and I where we were born? We both said where we were born but the questions didn't stop, have you been to Mexico recently? He asked us what we were doing here and where we were coming from? We were coming from a comedy show, we are comedians, Nick replied. Then he asked me who I worked for and how long I've been doing comedy? 15 years and I've worked for a lot of comedians, Chris Rock, Jim Jeffries, and Jo Koy. 15 years and you've never caught on? He Said. I was furious, he just insulted my career. You don't know how comedy works do you? I said indignantly. He had a look of surprise on his face. You know how I know you'll make it? the fact that you've been doing it 15 years and you haven't given up, he said. I am making it, I retorted. He let us go embarrassed that he had bothered us, Nick cracked up as soon as we drove away. He was laughing that despite the profiling we went through the only thing that got me mad was when he questioned my career choices. He even asked at one point if he was going into my act. You bet you are and I hope someday to see the dash cam video.
